You may have come across social bookmarking sites in the results of various searches you've carried out.

The typical aim of a social bookmarking site is usually to give you a place on the web to store your bookmarks. So if you're away from your PC you can still find your favorite sites.
Some social bookmarking sites purely do that job.
Others, such as Stumbleupon go further and suggest other sites that you might be interested in, based on sites that you've "stumbled" (i.e. bookmarked).
